10th Anniversary Party

Anniversary cake

SMASH celebrated the 10th anniversary of their founding on 8th September 2003 with a lunch party for about 60 guests in the SCILL Centre, Sutton. It was attended by the Mayor of Sutton Cllr. Robert Landeryou together with other local dignitaries. The Mayor gave an oration and the guest speaker was Kay Glendinning MBE of the Dunhill Trust.

Also in attendance was Phillipa Cousins, a speech therapist, who together with our chairman Trevor Walker, founded SMASH in 1992.

Since its foundation the SMASH group has continued to welcome new members and to provide a friendly and supportive environment for people with aphasia.

It is now one of the oldest established and surviving groups in the country and continues, through its activities, to raise awareness of aphasia and to campaign for a better understanding of aphasia.
